A Day at the Races!

The time is getting close. All the cars are lined up in their grid order ready to go! Things went real smooth, they had everyone off in record time. Although my navigator and me had one small problem. We didn’t have gloves. I guess I kind of forgot that part. So they had us step aside until we could find a pair. I was worried just a little that we wouldn't get to run. Then my navigator found two pairs and we were ready to go. The race director Gary Patterson told us to stay in our run group, that the slower groups had gone and we would be passing a lot of cars. Oh, darn! He held us up for one more car, a Corvette, he said "you'll want to pass him". So, we grunted and hooted, you could just smell all the testosterone.

Erik Belter in his '71 Pantera. He ran in the 125-mph class and averaged 124.407. This earned him 4th place in his class.

The local Sheriff's department made their showing at the event. Carefully watching each car leaving the starting line, but there was nothing they could do at that point! Although they were there as a reminder to not exceed your tech speed.

Dan Courtney's '73 GT-5 conversion in the pre-grid waiting his time to go. Dan made it to the event without getting a ticket (which disqualifies you from the race), but wasn't so lucky on the way back to Vegas.
